Moore Haven is a city and also the county seat of Glades County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,680 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Moore Haven is located on the Caloosahatchee River and about 10 km west of Lake Okeechobee in the south east of the county. Miami is about 170 km, Tampa and Orlando, about 230 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,680 inhabitants distributed in 832 households. The population density was 600 inh. / Km ². 61.2 % of the population were white, 24.8% African American and 0.4 % Asian Americans. 11.4% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.1% in different ethnic groups. 35.6 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 30.8 % of all households lived in 36.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 66.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.74 persons and the average family size is 3.24 people.

27.4 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.1% were 20-39 years old, 23.1% were 40-59 years old and 22.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 37 years. 52.3 % of the population were male and 47.7 % female.

The average annual income was $ 32,159, while 33.6 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 73.19 % of the population spoke Spanish and 26.81 %.

Traffic

Moore Haven is crossed by U.S. Highway 27. In addition, a railway line passes through the town that serves the freight.
