The Mopan language or Mopan language is the language of the indigenous people of the Mopan Maya in Belize and Guatemala.
Classification
Mopan is one of the Mayan languages and is closely related to the Mayathan in the Mexican Yucatán and the Lacandon in Chiapas, most closely related but with the spoken from the Guatemalan Petén Itzá Lake Itza language.
Dissemination
The Itza Maya is spoken especially in the Toledo District in Belize and in the Guatemalan department of Petén.
In Belize, there are, according to the 2000 census, 6093 Mopan speakers. At the 2002 census in Guatemala in 2455 gave people Mopan as mother tongue; 2891 people identified themselves as Mopan.
