Morar

Morar is a village on the west coast of Scotland with approximately 250 inhabitants. It lies about two miles south of Mallaig in the unitary authority of Highland.

Morar was only created in 1901 during the construction of the West Highland Railway that connects Fort William with Mallaig. Accordingly Morar features despite its small size, a railway station. Morar lives mainly from tourism nowadays. The tourists come mainly because of their leadership through the town panoramic road Road to the Isles and because of lying directly on the outskirts Silver Sands of Morar. This is a particularly picturesque stretch of coast to the mouth of the River Morar, whose silvery sand gleams in the sunshine. Much of the beach scenes in the film Local Hero was filmed there. On the outskirts there is a hydroelectric power plant, in the use of water from the Morar electric current is generated.

In Morar there is a larger hotel as well as a few guest houses and holiday homes. The village is connected by bus directly from Fort William and accessible by train without having to change to Glasgow.
