Mordechai Limon

Mordechai Limon (Hebrew: מרדכי לימון, born January 3, 1924 in Poland, † 16 May 2009) was the fourth commander of the Israeli Navy. He had held the post of 14 December 1950 to 1 July 1954.

Limon came to Palestine in 1932. He grew up in Tel Aviv and joined the Hashomer Hatzair youth organization. During the Second World War, Limon joined the paramilitary Palmach and served in the Marine group Palyam. In addition, he volunteered for the British Merchant Navy, where he learned the commanding ships. He oversaw the Cherbourg- project, which involved the smuggling of five missile patrol boats purchased from Israel, but had been seized by France as part of an arms embargo. He was then expelled from France.
