Mordechai Virshubski

Mordechai Virshubski (Hebrew מרדכי וירשובסקי; born May 10, 1930 in Leipzig, † 1, 2012 in Tel Aviv) was an Israeli lawyer and politician who served as a member and deputy speaker of the Knesset.

Life

Virshubski whose immigration ( aliyah ) to Palestine In 1939 along with his parents, attended the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv and then studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. After his admission to the bar in 1955 he became legal adviser to the Water Authority and thereafter from 1966 to 1977 the municipality of Tel Aviv.

At the same time he began in 1966 his political career in local politics and was until 1977 a member of the City Council of Tel Aviv. During this time he was in 1974 initially co-founder of the Zionist, secular and liberal party Shinui and then in 1976 the Democratic Movement for Change ( Dash ).

In the elections of June 13, 1977 Virshubski was first elected to the Knesset members and this was one for four legislative sessions until 13 July 1992. Initially he was between June 1977 and July 1981 chairman of the Knesset sub-committees for fundamental rights as well as for issues of Arab village of Arab al - Mafjer.

In 1978 he was one of the founders of the Movement for Change and initiative from the 1980 Shinui Center Party emerged. At times he was a member and also chairman of the secretariat of the party. During the eleventh Parliament, he was between August 1984 and November 1988 Chairman of the Knesset sub-committees for the police and prisons, as well as dangers to public beaches.

After he was in 1987 resigned from the Shinui, he became a member of the civil rights movement Ratz, from 1992, has developed the left-wing Meretz party.
