Mordechai Yosef Leiner

Mordechai Josef Leiner (Hebrew מרדכי יוסף ליינר ) (* 1802 in Tomaschov, † 1854) was a Hasidic rabbinical scholar and founder of the Izhbitza - Radzyn dynasty of Hasidism.

Life

He was born the son of Reb Yaakov. The father of Reb Yaakov was Reb Mordechai of Sekul, a descendant of Rabbi Shoul choice. At the age of two years he lost his father. He became a student of Simcha Bunem Przysucha; his schoolmates were Menachem Mendel of Kotzk and Rabbi Yosef of Yartshev; who were born in Tomashov.

As Menachem Mendel was ordained to the Rebbe in Kotzk, Reb Mordechai Josef was his pupil; then in 1839 he himself was Rebbe in Tomaschov; but then moved to Izbica.

His main disciple was Rabbi Yehuda body Eiger (1816-1888), grandson of Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Among his students were Rabbi Zadok HaKohen from Lublin (1823-1900), Rabbi Yaakov Leiner his own son (1828-1878) and his son Rabbi Gershon Henoch from Radzyn.
