Moroccan general election, 2007

The parliamentary elections were held in 2007 in Morocco on 7 September 2007.

Prime Minister Abbas al - Fassi was then, descendant of a wealthy family from Fez and leader of the Istiqlal Party, the largest party in parliament. He leads a coalition government of the Istiqlal, UNFP, PPS, RNI, and MP, a combination of pro-government and opposition parties.

The parliamentary elections were found to be relatively free and fair, but because of the low turnout to be regarded as problematic. Only 37% of eligible voters cast their votes, which once again proved to be 19% as invalid votes. Strongest parties were Istiqlal, PJD, MP, RNI and UNFP. The Islamic- oriented PJD is the second largest party in the Assembly of Representatives of Morocco and currently the largest opposition party.
