Moroccan general election, 2002

The parliamentary elections in Morocco in 2002 took place on 7 November 2002. After the elections, the non-party Driss Jettou was appointed by the King as head of government and led a coalition government.

Largest parties were 2002, the Union Socialiste des Forces Populaire ( USFP ) with 50 seats, Parti Istiqlal ( PI) with 48, and the Parti de la Justice et du Développement ( PJD ) with 42 seats.

Further distribution of seats: Rassemblement National des Independants (RNI ) 41, the Mouvement Populaire (MP ) 27, the Mouvement National Populaire (MNP ) 18, the Union Constitution Elle (UC ) 16, the Parti National Democratique (PND ) 12, the Front des Forces Democratique (FFD ) 12, the Parti du Progres et du Socialisme (PPS ) 11, the Union Democratique (UD) 10, the Mouvement Democratique et Social ( MDS ) 7, the Parti Socialiste Democratique (PSD ) 6 and other 25 seats. In the elections to the Senate in 1997 RNI won 42, MDS 33, UC 28, MP 27, PND 21, PI 21, the USFP 16, MNP 15, the unions and 27 Other 40 seats.

52% of the electorate voted, a historic low, 43 % less of the invalid votes.
