The Morokweng Crater is a 70 km impact crater, which is hidden beneath the Kalahari Desert. It is located near the city Morokweng in South Africa's North West Province near the border with Botswana.

The result of the crater by the impact of an asteroid from five to ten kilometers in diameter. Its age is estimated at about 145 million years. The impact structure was discovered in 1994, but is not visible at the surface; they could be detected by gravimetric measurements. Cores have shown that the crater formed by the impact of an L- chondrite asteroid.

In May 2006, a group of researchers, the holes in the area of the crater Morokweng conducted, announced that they had found in 770 meters depth a fragment of the original asteroids, and also another tiny pieces at different depths. This discovery was unexpected, because so far had holes transported in large impact structures no fragments days, and it was assumed that the asteroid must be completely evaporated.
