Morwen Thistlethwaite

Morwen B. Thistlethwaite is a knot theorist and professor of mathematics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He has made ​​significant contributions to knot theory and group theory of Rubik's Cube.

Thistlewaite studied mathematics from 1964 to 1967 at the University of Cambridge and 1967/68 at the University of London ( master's degree ). 1968 to 1972 he was at Manchester University, where he received his doctorate at Michael Barratt. He studied from 1972 together with Tanya Polunin, James Gibb and Balint Vazsonyi piano and gave concerts in London before 1975 decided to pursue a career in mathematics. 1975 to 1978 he was at the Polytechnic of North London and from 1978 to 1987 at the Polytechnic of the South Bank in London. 1987/88 he was a visiting professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara, and in 1988 at the University of Tennessee.
