Mossyrock Dam

The Mossyrock Dam is a dam on the Cowlitz River in Washington State in the USA. The lake is called Lake reefs (formerly Davisson reservoir ), and is 37 km long. It is located 45 km east-southeast of Centralia.

The hydroelectric power plant at the dam electricity for the city of Tacoma is generated. In addition, the dam of flood preparedness serves. Furthermore, the lake is a recreation area in summer and in winter. In winter the water level is lowered to make room for high water that usually comes in the spring. In summer, water is discharged to supply the river with adequate quantities of water for the fish.

Mossyrock is also the name of a nearby city, which has been newly built on the site perished in the lake villages reefs and the cosmos. The former name Davisson comes from an engineer who supervised the project, but the reservoir was soon renamed in honor of the city reefs. Reefs as " life" pronounced. " Rifle Lake " is probably a misspelling, which indicates a not properly understood meaning.

The dam, an arch-gravity dam is approximately 185 meters above sea level, the ninth- highest dam in the United States. Other sources speak of a wall height of only 111 m and a maximum water depth of 110 m. This is the height above ground level ( on the bottom ), while 185 meters is the height above the foundation.

At the Cowlitz there are other dams:

  • Cowlitz Falls has a 70 - megawatt power plant and was completed in 1994.
  • The Mayfield dam is 56 m high and 259 m long and located 21 km downstream of the Mossyrock Dam.
