Mossyrock is a town in Lewis County in the mid- southwest of the U.S. state of Washington. In the census in 2010 Mossyrock had 759 inhabitants.

Geography

Mossyrock is located at 46 ° 31'47 " north latitude and 122 ° 29'3 " west longitude and extending over 1.1 km ², which consist exclusively of land area.

The village lies approximately 6 kilometers by road west of Mossyrock Dam and 13 km east of Mayfield Dam. These two dams dam on the Cowlitz River, which flows at Longview (across from Portland, Oregon) in the Columbia River.

Mossyrock is located southwest of Mount Rainier, the highest 4,392 m peaks of the Cascade Range. In the immediate vicinity of Mossyrock are the Mount Rainier National Park, Snoqualmie National Forest and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest to the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

The nearest towns are Morton (18,6 km to the east), Silver Creek (11 miles west) and Harmony (4.9 km north). The nearest major cities are Seattle (163 km north) and Portland, Oregon ( 152nbsp; miles south-southwest ).

By Mossyrock runs with U.S. Highway 12 almost the entire U.S. pull-through from west to east toward the highway. In the city center, the highway meets the State Routes 122

History

The history of Mossyrock began in 1852 with the establishment of a trading post at the feet of a 61 -meter-high moss-covered rock (English: moss- covered rock ).

In 1948 the town was officially elevated to an independent commune and got the status of City awarded.

Demograpfische data

In the official census in 2000 a population of 486 was determined. These were distributed to 187 households in 115 families. The population density was 426.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 215 residential buildings, which corresponded to a housing density of 188.7 per square kilometer buildings.

The population was in 2000 from 90.3 percent white, 0.2 percent African Americans, 1.9 percent Indians and 0.2 percent Asian and 3.7 percent other. 3.7 percent said to be descended from at least two of these groups. 6.8 percent of the population consisted of Hispanics who belonged to the various of the aforementioned groups.

29.6 percent were under the age of 18, 11.3 percent between 18 to 24, 26.3 percent of 25-44, 19.3 percent from 45 to 64 and 13.4 percent 65 and older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females were statistically 93.6 men, at the age 18 and over 102.4.
