Longview is a city in Cowlitz County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Washington. At the 2000 census it had 34 660 inhabitants. The place is located at the mouth of the Cowlitz River in the Columbia River and has a common border with the eastern town of County Seat Kelso.

History

Longview was the site of Mount Coffin, a burial site of the natives. The first Europeans settled in the 50s of the last century. 1921 planned Wesley Vandercook a mill near Kelso to build. As it turned out, that the almost 2000 inhabitants were not sufficient to build the mill was a city planner from St. Louis tasked a city plan. In 1924, Longview received its town charter.

Geography

The Lewis and Clark Bridge connects Longview to Rainier, Oregon. It is the only bridge over the Columbia River between Portland and Astoria. The Nutty Narrows Bridge is also in Longview.
