Mostafa Moeen

Mustafa Moin ( born April 1, 1951 in Najaf Abad, Esfahan, Iran) is an Iranian politician and professor of pediatrics.

Moin studied medicine at Shiraz University Medical School in Shiraz, after the Iranian revolution, he was appointed president of the University of Shiraz.

Professional life

In the parliamentary elections in 1982 he was elected to the Iranian parliament as a representative of Shiraz.

Moin was from 1989 to 1993 Minister of Culture and Education under President Alī Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and later under President Mohammad Khatami from 1997 to 2000 at the same position. From 2000 to 2003 he was Minister of Science, Research and Technology. Twice Moin came as ministers back, for the first time after the student riots in July 1999 and then in July 2003 after criticism by the Guardian Council on his administration.

In 2005, he appeared as a candidate of the reformers to the Iranian presidential elections in which he was supported by the largest party of the reformist camp, the Participation Front of Islamic Iran. He joined the heavy legacy of the successor of Mohammad Khatami as a symbol of the Iranian Reformbegung. As a colorless former minister, however, Moin could never reach the popularity of Khatami.

Mustafa Moin is a leading Iranian researchers in the field of pediatric immunology and allergy. He is President of the Research Center of the Medical College in Tehran.
