Motey-sur-Saône

Motey -sur -Saône is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Motey -sur -Saône is located at an altitude of 202 m above sea level, 14 km northeast of Gray and about 38 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, at the edge of Talniederung the Saone, north of the Forêt de Belle Vaivre.

The area of ​​2.99 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The northern border is always along the Saône, which draws a large, south -flung arc here and flows through a roughly two kilometers wide Alluvialniederung. The flood plain is on average 195 m. The river is expanded to the waterway, the river loop of Savoyeux is cut off by a side channel. In the area of Motey the banks are therefore left in near-natural state. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the Talniederung up on the adjacent plateau. This consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period and from Tertiary deposits. On the plateau, which lies at 220 m, dominates agricultural use. Further south ranges of communal land in the vast forest of the Forêt de Belle Vaivre. With 246 meters, the highest elevation of Motey -sur -Saône is achieved in this forest.

Neighboring communities of Motey -sur -Saône are Savoyeux in the north, Seveux the east and south, and Mercey -sur -Saône in the West.

History

The origin of Motey probably goes back to a monastery, which was founded before the 11th century. Therefore, the name comes from the Latin word monasterium (monastery). Over time, the spelling on Mostier and Mostix to Motey changed. In the Middle Ages Motey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Fouvent who left the church of Saint -Martin in 1098 the monastery Beza. By the Lords of Beaujeu the monastery Corneux came to land in Motey. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Motey -sur -Saône is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Vorles was built in 1776-1778 and has a crucifix from the 15th century. In the cemetery there is a forged Calvaire of 1733. The Lavoir on the road to Mercey -sur -Saône dates from the 19th century and was once used as a wash house and livestock watering.

Population

With 25 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Motey -sur -Saône is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 98 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Motey -sur -Saône was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Gray after Vellexon. Further road links exist with Mercey -sur -Saône and Sainte -Reine.
