Mothball

A mothball is a strong -smelling repellent in the form of a 0.5 to 1.5 cm in diameter measured white pulp ball that is designed to combat moths in wardrobes and chests with textiles or even suspended.

The typical mothball smell was formerly exudes through the naphthalene mainly contained ( C10H8 ). Today is in mothballs or moth strips the less odorous Paradichlorobenzene ( PDCB ) as the active ingredient. Both substances are harmful and dangerous for the environment.

The materials contained in mothballs sublimate ( = go from solid directly into the gaseous state ) very slowly - several years - and are distributed in the ambient air. Such substances for moths smell unpleasant, this escape and the clothes will be saved from moth damage. Moth balls have been used in the past mainly in the custody of the seasonal winter or summer clothes in chests or with long-term shipment. This process is called mothballing.
