Motorola Timeport

The Motorola Timeport L7089 was the world's first tri-band mobile phone on the market. With the supported frequency bands of 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz, it is thus used in Europe, parts of Asia and in the USA. This mobile phone was sold by Motorola as a business phone and first sold in 1999.

Equipment

The mobile phone has a size of 158 x 45 x 24 mm and a weight of 108 grams. It has a monochrome green LCD display with four lines which is dissolved with 96 x 54 pixels and has eleven unchangeable ringtones. The additional equipment consists in an infrared interface, an RS-232 serial interface and the ability to connect a headset. The external antenna can be unscrewed and replaced by another. On the upper left corner there is a Netz-/Status-Anzeige in the form of a flashing LED. It has not only the usual, relatively large-sized buttons a fast menu key and a mailbox key on the front. Are located on the left side, two volume keys and the phone book button on the right side of the button is attached to record. Up to three minutes long messages and discussion sections can be recorded with the phone. The key lock function is activated by pressing the * and # key. In addition, the phone supports voice control with the programmed telephone numbers can be dialed.

The travel charger supports 110 V with 60 Hz and 220 V at 50 Hz and has European and American plug types, desktop stand is also available.

The mobile phone was tested by the magazine Stiftung Warentest edition 12/1999 with good ( 1.7 ) rated. In the test, there were 20 mobile phone, of which 17 were assessed with well- and three satisfactory. In six other periodicals, including the Connect magazine the mobile phone was also positively evaluated. In many test reports on Internet forums, the phone fell mainly due to its relatively complicated operation and menu navigation as well as the lack of the usual features such as calendar, alarm clock, calculator and currency converter to negative, however, the good reception performance and voice quality was mentioned positively.
