Moulin (geology)

Glacier mills spiralwandige hollow shapes in the ice that have been created by runoff at the glacier surface or in columns meltwater. The melt water displaced rock debris of various particle sizes in circular motion. Expand and deepen the glacier mill and are doing some ground itself.

Can moulins diameter of up to 20 meters reach and usually develop in shallow areas of the glacier with horizontal crevasses. You can reach to the bottom of the glacier and its hundreds of meters deep.

For the glaciology glacier mills play an important role because it is easy to come by it in the interior of a glacier. The name was derived from the mill -grinding, usually rotating drainage of melt water.

The remnants of the glacial potholes, eroded into the bedrock potholes are found in all areas of the glacial ice.

Potholes are a prerequisite for sand cone.
