Mount Adagdak

Mount Adagdak, 2000

The Mount Adagdak is a 610 m high stratovolcano, located at the northeastern tip of Iceland Adak in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, United States. The mountain is 1.4 km south of Cape Adagdak, after which the volcano was named in 1948. The Adagdak has with Andrew Bay and Mount Moffett a common volcanic center. The Mount Adagdak arose in the Holocene or Pleistocene and not erupted in historical times. Three phases of volcanic activity have been mapped, the most recent of which is a lava dome with an estimated age of 210,000 years. The summit crater is an andesitic lava dome that forms the highest point of the volcano. On the southeast flank there is a basaltic lava dome. In the Volcano belonging Caldera Andrew Bay, there are some areas with hot springs.

The northern part of the island of Adak has been geologically explored in terms of possible geothermal energy.
