The mountain Aragats (Armenian Արագած, in scientific transliteration Aragac ) Alagöz is the highest point of the Republic of Armenia. It is located in the province of Aragazotn, northwest of Yerevan, and is an independent, extinct volcano with four peaks that form the edge of the volcanic crater.

The Aragats is the most popular destination for climbers in the region and draws in the summer to find other tourists. Is the Byurakan observatory on its slopes. This observatory was one of the major observatories of the former Soviet Union.

In the south of Aragats is Ashtarak, the capital of the province Aragazotn. On the other side there are villages and smaller towns.
