Mount Bursik

BWf1

Mount Bursik is the main peak of Søholt peaks in the Heritage Range, the southern part of the Antarctic Ellsworthgebirges. With 2500 meters it is the highest summit of the Heritage Range.

Mount Bursik was mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the compilation of Ellsworthgebirges in the years 1961-66 by site surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the mountain after Captain Don Vlada Bursik (1918-1973) of the United States Navy. Bursik 1966 was Deputy Commander of the Marine units that were used in support of Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica.
