Mount Carmel Cemetery (Hillside, Illinois)

Mount Carmel Cemetery is a Roman Catholic cemetery in Hillside (Illinois ), a suburb of Chicago, and named as some other American cemeteries after Mount Carmel in Israel today.

Location

The cemetery is located between the Eisenhower Expressway ( Interstate 290) to the north, Wolf Road in the west and Roosevelt Road to the south. It is bordered to the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, which lies on the other side of Roosevelt Road; and the Oakridge Glen Oaks Cemetery; which is on the other side of Wolf Road, next to the Queen of Heaven.

Mount Carmel Cemetery covers an area of ​​214 acres ( 865,844 m²), to the more than 225,000 people were buried. Every year there are about 800 burials on it.

History

The cemetery was opened in 1901. 1965 was the cemetery its own administration in cooperation with the other two cemeteries.

The Bishop's Mausoleum is also located in Mount Carmel Cemetery and was created by William J. Brinkmann. it serves as a burial place for the Archbishops of Chicago. In addition, there are over 400 family tombs and mausoleums of known Mobstern at the cemetery.
