Mount-Macdonald-Tunnel

The Mount Macdonald Tunnel is a railway tunnel in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is located near the Rogers Pass in the Selkirk Mountains and passes under Mount Macdonald. It was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway, to complement the nearby Connaught Tunnel in 1916.

Construction on the Mount Macdonald Tunnel began in 1984 and the first train reversed in 1988. With a length of 14,7 km it is the longest rail tunnel in the Americas. The operation is usually controlled so that only westbound trains use the Mount Macdonald Tunnel, while trains heading east through the 90 meters higher, 8.1 km long Connaught Tunnel.
