Mount Macdonald east of Rogers Pass (1887 )

The Mount Macdonald is a mountain in the Selkirk Mountains to the south of the Canadian province of British Columbia. The 2883 m high mountain is located just east of Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park. The original name of the mountain was Mount Carroll, but was in honor of John Macdonald, the first Canadian Prime Minister, as amended.

The mountain is known for two tunnels of the transcontinental railway, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the 8.1 km long Connaught Tunnel and the 14.7 km long Mount Macdonald Tunnel - the longest railway tunnel in the Americas.

At 1700 meters high north side of the mountain, is located at the foot of the Trans-Canada Highway, avalanches are recorded in the winter months regularly, blocking one of the main roads of Canada.

The first ascent was made in 1886 by DO Lewis and several employees of the railway company.
