Mount Sipylus

The Sipylos (Greek Σίπυλος ) was in ancient geography, a mountain range in Lydia. It was located south of the Hermus, now the Gediz, and north of Smyrna, today Izmir. In particular, they understood under the Sipylos the eastern Spil Dagi, but also the western Yamanlar Dagi was considered part of the mountain. North of it was Manisa.

On the Sipylos there was the Salo Lake, the city had Sipylos and its predecessor Tantalis, the city of the mythical Tantalus wicked swallowed. This lake is the Karagöl ( " Black Lake "), a crater lake at the summit of Yamanlar Dagi identified.

On the slope of Sipylos is a described in antiquity rock carving of a seated figure. It could be determined on the basis of two inscriptions as Hittite, the interpretation is controversial.
