Mount Tendürek

The Tendürek Dagi ( armen. Թոնդրակ ) is a shield volcano in the Turkish province of Ağrı in the district Diyadin near the Iranian border. A variant name is Tendürük. It is equipped with 3,533 m one of the highest mountains in the country. The ridge runs in an east -west direction. The Tendürek has two cones and a crater lake on the eastern slope with 500 m diameter and is Turkey 's most active volcano. Its last eruption of gas and ash was carried out in 1855. Eruptions and the emergence of the volcano left wide lava flows that now cover 500 km ². On the eastern flank of the mountain water vapor and sulfur vapors lets out what the area of the crater has turned yellow. The temperature of the vapor is 60 ° C. At the foot of the mountain, the river Bendimahi springs.

The mountain played a role in the Ararat rebellion in the 1930s. At that time ( Tendürük Harekâtı ) took place the so-called " Tendürük operation." In the vicinity of the mountain still fighting between the PKK and the Turkish security forces take place.
