The mountain reedbuck ( Redunca fulvorufula ) is an antelope of the genus reedbuck.

Features

The mountain reedbuck reach a shoulder height of up to 76 inches and weighs up to 27 kilograms. The horns are up to 20 centimeters long.

This antelope is wearing a gray-brown coat with a white belly. At the head and neck shimmers yellowish. In case of danger, the mountain reedbuck on the bushy tail, so that the white underside is visible. The male wears short, curled and curved forward horns. The weight is 30 kg, shoulder height 70 cm.

Area of ​​distribution and habitat

The distribution area of the mountain goat Ried is very torn and includes three widely separated territories. In each lives a separate subspecies:

  • Southern mountain reedbuck (R. f fulvorufula ), South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique
  • Chanler - mountain reedbuck (R. f chanleri ), Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan
  • Western mountain reedbuck (R. f adamauae ), Nigeria, Cameroon

The western mountain reedbuck, which is located only in the Nigerian Gashaka - Gumti National Park and smaller parts of the highlands of Adamawa, is managed by the IUCN as threatened.

Mountain reedbuck are limited to mountainous or hilly terrain with scattered shrubs and grass -clad slopes and need to be close open waters.

Way of life

The bucks defend their territory year-round, which consist of two to six females and their calves herds move freely through the territories. Males without territory live alone or in bachelor groups. After the birth of the boy stays hidden even two to three months in the jungle.
