Mountain States

The term Mountain States is a region in the western United States. The term " Mountain States " means the States, through which runs the mountain range of the Rocky Mountains. The Rocky Mountains stretch from north to south across the USA. In general, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Nevada are counted among the Mountain States. Depending on the definition, Arizona and New Mexico are added sometimes.

Characteristics

The Mountain States are mainly characterized by their low population density and the imposing mountains. Big cities can be found in the Rocky Mountains rarely, the metropolises of the Mountain States, Denver, Las Vegas and Phoenix, are all outside of the mountain. However, the Rocky Mountains are also the part of the U.S., was colonized at the latest. The lowest population density is in Wyoming with just under 2 inhabitants per km ².

Politically, the Mountain States very conservative and hence dominated by the Republicans.

Economy

The main traditional sources of income in the Mountain States are mining and cattle raising in recent times but also the service and thus tourism. The funded in the Rocky Mountains include minerals especially gold and silver, but also zinc, lead, copper and uranium. In Colorado, Wyoming and Montana are also large oil, natural gas and coal. Livestock farming is still a particularly strong presence in Montana and Wyoming.

Tourist are primarily the National Parks in southern Utah and the ski resorts in Colorado is important.
