Mouse Guard

Mouse Guard is a comic book series created by writer / artist David Petersen that appears at Cross Cult in the U.S. from the publisher Archaia Studios Press and Germany. The heroes of the series are intelligent mice who live in a medieval world and have to deal with other intelligent animals such as weasels.

Content

The stories of the series play in a world of the Middle Ages, in the mice form their own civilization. They live in villages and small towns and trade with each other, but are also always of larger animals or threatened each other. So Lockhaven looking to foreclose the largest city of the mice, and has been with the Mouse Guard own guard. This also protects the mice that have to go into the dangerous world outside the settlements. The first story follows the three guards Lieam, Saxon and Kenzie.

Publication

The series has been published since 2006, with interruptions every two months as a comic booklet. Each three books form the arcs case in 1152 ( "Fall 1152 " ), Winter 1152 and Black Axe ( "The Black Axe " ), each of which also appeared as anthology. 2010 also came the short story Spring 1153 to the American Free Comic Book Day Out. 2009 David Petersen launched the spin-off project Legends of the Guard ( "Legends of the Guardians " ), tell where other comic artists short stories from the Mouse Guard universe. From 2006 to 2009, also four sketchbooks were published.

Since April 2008, Cross Cult brings the anthologies out in German. Previously released autumn 1152 and winter 1152. In February 2012, he published The Legends of the Guardians. The comic was also translated into French and Portuguese.

Games adaptation

2008 Archaia Studios Press brought out a tabletop game based on the comic book series.

Reception

In 2008, won two Eisner Awards Mouse Guard, "Best Publication for Kids" and "Best Graphic Album - Reprint ". The collection Legends of the Guard won the 2011 Eisner Award as a " Best Anthology ". The German publication was nominated for the 2008 Max and Moritz Award in the category "Best Comic for Kids" and 2009 in the category "Best U.S. comic " for the PENG! Prize.
