Moyamba is a city in Sierra Leone. It is the capital of the district Moyamba and is located in the Southern Province.

Location

The town is located approximately 100 kilometers east-southeast of the capital Freetown.

Population

The inhabitants are mostly Mende. In 1963, counted 4563 inhabitants. 1974, 6425 and 1985 were then 6483 people. The population therefore increases since the mid- 1970s, barely. Today one expects around 6700 inhabitants.

Infrastructure

The place has a small hospital, police station and administrative building of the local government. The roads in the area are mostly in fair condition. Moyamba has no airfield, which could make up for this condition.

Economy

In the Mokanji Hills near the town of bauxite is mined. The city is handling and marketplace ginger, kola nuts, palm oil and kernels, and rice.
