The Sovereign is a cruise ship of the Spanish cruise line Pullmantur.

History

The Sovereign of the Seas 1987 for the shipping company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.. built in a French Saint -Nazaire. The floating was held on 4 April 1987. The delivery took place on 19 December 1987. She was at that time the largest passenger ship in the world and is considered a forerunner of today's mega- cruise ships. Her home port was Oslo. On 21 December 1987 she broke on to the overpass trip to Miami. There was on 15 January 1988, the ship's christening. The next day began from there the first cruise. In 2005, Nassau, The Bahamas became the new home port.

In 2008 the ship was sold to the Spanish cruise line Pullmantur, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean. On 7 November 2008 the ship was renamed Sovereign. The white paint was retained. Only the chimney shone now in a red shade. 2013 there was a fundamental change in the paint at Pullmantur. The Sovereign is now wearing a blue hull paint with blue chimney.

Destination operates an all inclusive concept. Beer, wine and cocktails are included for the most part in the tour price.

Use

In her time as Sovereign of the Seas Royal Caribbean put the ship only one in the Caribbean. After its acquisition by Pullmantur there was initially some cruises in Brazil CVC charter. In 2009, the Sovereign was first to the Mediterranean, which is the main area of the ship since then.

Sister ships

The Sovereign has two sister ships, the monarch (since 2013 also at Pullmantur, formerly Monarch of the Seas ) and the Majesty of the Seas ( Royal Caribbean Cruises).
