MTD Products

The MTD Inc. ( originally Modern Tool and Die Company ), headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the world's largest designers, manufacturers and distributors of motorized garden tools.

The company was founded in Cleveland in 1932 by the emigrated from Germany engineers, Theo Moll, Emil Jochum and Erwin Gerhard as a supplier of tools and cast semi-finished products, and later steel stamping parts for local industry ( toy manufacturer ). Later own products were produced, initially tricycles and the like, since the early 1950s, wheelbarrows, later also other gardening equipment, 1958 the first lawn mower.

At numerous production sites in the U.S., Canada and Europe in addition to petrol and electric lawnmowers and ride-on mowers, lawn tractors, mower, scarifier, snow blowers, leaf blowers, tillers, trimmers, lawn edgers, chippers, log splitters, chainsaws, ATVs, inter alia, produced.

In 1970, the lawn mower division of the company based in Eislingen Ventzki was taken, from which the MTD power equipment GmbH was formed, which is responsible for the care of the specialist trade today.

In 1996 MTD took over the German company Gutbrod, manufacturer of powered lawn mowers and small tractors, in Plochingen am Neckar. From today's European headquarters MTD Products AG, headquartered in Saarbrücken- Bübingen sales offices and subsidiaries originated in France, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark, Bulgaria, Russia, Switzerland, the Benelux countries and Poland. The two European production sites are located in Saarbrücken- Bübingen and Nemesvámos (Hungary).

Since 2006, lawn care equipment under the licensed brand Massey Ferguson produced for the European market since 2007 lawn tractors in the lower price segment for Toro. Since 1 September 2009, including Wolf-Garten for MTD Products AG in Saarbrücken.
