The Mudi is a recognized by the FCI Hungarian breed (FCI Group 1, Section 1, Standard No. 238).

Origin and History

The Mudi is a close relative of Puli Pumi and. He is the universal dog of small farmers and herdsmen in Hungary. Until the 19th century the differences between these races were not so pronounced as it is today, even the racial designations were not clearly handled. It is assumed that this type of dog originated from the mixing of Hungarian herding dogs with small German shepherd dogs ( Old German Shepherd dogs ) as Shepherd Spitz, sheep poodle or Pomeranian Spitz, who brought in the 18th century immigrated to Hungary Germans, Danube Swabians. Another relative is the very similar-looking Croatian Sheepdog ( Hrvatski ovčar ).

In 1936 the Mudi was finally described, and he got the unique name assigned to it. The studbook is still open, that is, still, to be added without papers to prison register dogs of this type.

Description

The Mudi is up to 47 cm tall and 13 kg. He is a beautifully proportioned dog, stehohrig, with more or less wavy or curly hair. The most common color is black, but there are also other colors before, such as blue-merle, ash-colored, brown, blond, white. The coat is typical shepherd dog weatherproof and easy to clean.

Head and front of limbs are covered by short, straight and smooth hair. On other parts of the body the coat is uniformly very wavy or slightly curly, dense and always shiny, about 3-7 cm long.

He shares his environment like screaming, that is, it is alert and barking joyfully.

Use

The field of application of Mudis is universal and reaches from the bustle of cattle of all sizes over the hats to the guarding of the house and yard. Also to hunt for wild boar he was employed. As a family dog ​​working dog desperately needs employment. He is very docile and is suitable for all dog sports and many other tasks. Even as a rescue dog he is suitable. He is also an ideal companion dog for riders, since it runs very happy. Underemployed he tends to become apathetic or aggressive.

As a herding dog he is not working as opposed to the Border Collie with the look, but also drives the cattle with a lot of voice. It can be used to deal with difficult cattle as well as pigs and mainly today with sheep. He is assertive and independent, where it is necessary, but also careful and gentle when appropriate. His area of ​​responsibility is versatile: It is responsible to keep the herd in the pasture, he helps in converting while sharing and sorting of individual animals and of course while driving.
