Muhammad Husayn Tabatabaei

Allameh Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Tabatabai (also Tabataba'i; persian محمدحسین طباطبایی, DMG Muḥammad - Hosain Ṭabāṭabāyī; * 1892 or 1903 in Tabriz, † 15 November 1981) was one of the most influential Iranian- Islamic philosopher of the last century and Shiite clerics with the religious title of Ayatollah.

He has written numerous books on Islamic philosophy, his most important single work is a monumental commentary on the Qur'an under the title Tafsir al Mizan.

Many of his students such as Mohammed Beheshti, Morteza Mohammad Motahhari or Mofatteh played in the Islamic revolution in Iran a significant role and occupied important positions later. He himself did not take an active part in the Iranian revolution.
