Mühlenriede

Stream just before it flows into the Allerkanal

The mill Riede is a creek on the north eastern edge of the Pape Teicher plateau with a 50 km ² large catchment area west of the city of Wolfsburg and southeast of the city Gifhorn. The creek is part of the river system of the Aller. It flows near the Tankumsees in the Allerkanal.

Topography

The creek is formed west of the city of Wolfsburg. The headwaters are now fully plumbed so that their source and its headwaters are no longer recognizable. At the surface of the stream arrives at the B39 near the villages of Wolfsburg Mörse and Ehmen. On the southern outskirts of these two places, the mill Riede initially flows west before it bends from Ehmen on the western outskirts to the north. The mill Riede flows past Faller life and then dükert at Sülfeld the Mittelland Canal. After crossing under the canal, the river turns to the north-west in the direction Calberlah. After the mill Riede has passed the place, he dükert the Elbe Lateral Canal and ends after it has flowed past the southern edge of the Tankumsees, in the Allerkanal.

Tributaries

The small Bruns Roder Riede is a left source stream of the mill Riede. The creek originates north of Great Brunsrode in Flechtorfer wood. It is fed by several small sources and drains both the forest and the surrounding farmland. The waters had been greatly expanded and straightened over a long period of time. Since the 1990s, the trench is no longer maintained, so that it partially rehabilitated himself. The creek flows through intensively managed farmland, protected only in a few places by the shore woods. In addition, the waste water is discharged into the stream on the receiving water of a pond treatment plant.

Flora and Fauna

The mill Riede is a largely developed and begradigtes waters at times with very low water levels. The creek runs mostly through green spaces and is only a few areas shaded by trees. Today, the Bach develops slowly back to its natural state, in parts supported by restoration measures. The first restoration actions were completed some time ago in the Auewiesen between Ehmen and Faller life. In the section between Mörse and Ehmen started in 2004 with the laying of the riverbed and the renaturation.

Floating aquatic organisms are largely absent from the mill Riede. Nevertheless, there are nine species that are performed on the Red List of Lower Saxony:

  • A kind of mayflies - Siphlonuridae armatus
  • Two different types of caddisflies
  • Two different types of long- button water beetles
  • As a subset of bladder snails
  • A subspecies of the plate screw
  • The Banded Demoiselle
  • Blue Federlibelle

Water quality

The river bottom is, as usual, in the Lüneburg Heath, of sand and fine gravel. The Lower Saxony Water Quality Report 2004 assesses the chemical water pollution of the mill vineyard in the upper and middle reaches as moderately polluted ( Class II ). The underflow is critically polluted (class II -III).
