The Mühlwasser is a 7.0 km long right tributary of the Lauter in the Thuringian Forest on the northwest border of the county- town of Suhl, Zella -Mehlis, or to the district Schmalkalden- Meiningen. Here the river forms in its course from its source on the northwest slope of the Wild West head in northwestern, southwestern, and finally south to the B 247 to more than half its length about the municipal boundary.

The subjects of the Mühlwassers represents the western half of the fan of his receiving water volume up, which in turn occupies the north-east of the fan of the hazel, are important main branches within the volume up headwaters and Mühlwasser. Significant characteristics of the Lauter system meet especially at Mühlwasser and its tributaries.
