Muizenberg is a village on the False Bay suburb of Cape Town. He has 36 857 inhabitants ( 2011).

Geography

Muizenberg has a long sandy beach. As in False Bay a number White sharks live, there is an observation station in Muizenberg, which alerted the swimmers and surfers at risk. The Zandvlei opens in Muizenberg in False Bay. At the mouth of the Imperial Yacht Club and Peninsula Canoe Club are located.

History

The Rhodes ' Cottage is a small house, which bought Cecil Rhodes, the Prime Minister of the Cape Colony as a holiday house. He died on 26 March 1902. Nowadays there is the fact the Rhodes Museum.

Het Posthuys ( the Post House ) is one of the oldest houses in South Africa. It was built around 1742 by the Dutch East India Company as a tollbooth. One of the first postal clerk was Sergeant Muys. From him the name Muysenbergh or Muys Zijn Bergh derives from the later Muizenberg was. The house served among other things as a police station, hotel and private home and was restored in the 1980s. Today it also houses a museum.

The Battle of Muizenberg was a small but significant military offensive that began in June 1795 with the first British occupation ended at the Cape of Good Hope three months later. It began the period of British rule. Between 1804 and 1806 was the Cape of the Batavian Republic. Thereafter, the Cape Colony was British again.

Furthermore, Muizenberg is the seat of the African Institute for Mathematics.

Through the Southern Line Metrorail Cape Town Muizenberg is connected to Cape Town and Simon 's Town.
