Mulegns

Mulegns ( German and mills until 1943 ) is a municipality in the district of Surses ( Oberhalbstein) of the district of Albula in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

Mulegns is on the road to the Julier Pass. The highest point of the municipality is the 3392 m high lying Piz Platta.

Demographics

After Mulegns population is the smallest municipality in Above the stone. History

The original settlement was focused in the Val Faller. There were built from 600-500 BC copper and from operating furnaces. The present village Mulegns was founded by the Walser people in the 15th century, in 1521 it was first mentioned. The Walser hiked to in Val Faller, they had already settled in the 13th century.

In the 19th century, the post-horses were changed in Mulegns, there was then stalls for up to 150 horses. An eye-witness of this era is the post Loewen. The opening of the Albula Railway destroyed many jobs in 1903 and meant that today only a few farmers live in the village.

On 10 March 2006, the inhabitants agreed to by nine votes to six a fusion of all municipalities of the district to the municipality Surses. However, because of the resistance of other communities and the failed quorum this project failed. After the rejection of the community -Gross fusion in the valley the voices grow louder in the village that is now a merger is to be sought from Sur GR.

Economy

With 25 residents, there are eleven jobs in the community. Including the Post Hotel Lion, formerly descended well as travelers in the who traveled over the Julier Pass.

Attractions

  • The Baroque Church of St. Francis, 1643 created by the Capuchins, replaced a late medieval predecessor church, which was dedicated to St. Gaudenzdorfer.

Cooperations
