Münchner Theater für Kinder

The Munich-based theater for children is a Munich's private theater in which professional actors perform plays for children.

History

Heinz Redmann founded the theater in 1967; he is still its director today. Theater played in the Leopold Street - First, in the premises of the LEO 17. Since 1977, the theater has its own premises. High renovation costs for the building brought financial difficulties, so that the theater is dependent on donations today.

Performances

At stake curriculum includes pieces by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, pieces or from templates by Michael Ende, Janosch, Astrid Lindgren and Otfried Preußler - but also operas and musicals for children.

In one season, up to 14 pieces on the program. During school holidays and on weekends there is a morning and an afternoon show with two different pieces; on other days a presentation in the afternoon.

Special

Children are invited to paint pictures of the performances; the images will be exhibited in the foyer. As a special birthday service can be ordered a table was set for the pause after the show then are costumes to re-enact the play available.

Building

Has the Munich theater for children 's rooms in the Dachau street near the Stiglmaierplatz in the district Maxvorstadt. It has accommodation for 355 visitors.

The listed building was built from 1915 to 1917 after plans by Oswald Schiller in Art Nouveau style. Originally the ground floor of the Regina Theatre was housed, which was Munich's first sound film theater. The lettering Regina still be found on the facade. In the upper floors are apartments.

The ground floor of the four-storey building is distinguished by a cornice against the upper floors; it is decorated with stone atlases. Pilasters on the ground floor area indicate a wide portico. The ends of the building are highlighted in the upper floors through curved bay window.

The rooms of the theater are decorated with blue-green majolica. Side rooms of the theater were originally intended for musicians who accompanied silent films.
