Munich Opera Festival

The Munich Opera Festival is the longest established international festival of its kind that attracts opera lovers from around the world. They are the traditional highlight of the Munich Opera year in June and July.

The Festival is now organized by the Bavarian State Opera and the Bavarian State Ballet and offer more than 30 opera performances, recitals, and numerous concerts, ballet productions and many other events at the National Theatre, Prince Regent Theatre, Cuvillies theater, the Pavillon 21 MINI Opera Space (2010), the Court Church and the Neue Pinakothek (2010) and the Museum Brandhorst (2010).

History

The Opera Festival were first held in 1875 as a solid summer with the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and music dramas of Richard Wagner. The festival concept was so successful that the desire to own Festspielhaus was larger with time so that by the turn of the century, the Prince Regent Theatre was built to conform to the wishes of the citizens - sponsored by the art-loving prince regent Luitpold. The opening was on 21 August 1901 Meistersinger and ushered in a golden age of the Munich Opera Festival.

Since 1958, the Society for the Promotion of the Munich Opera Festival, the Opera Festival support - in addition to the financial support by a Festival Prize (since 1965) and an annual comprehensive publication (since 1959 - today under the title "Festival Guide ").

Under the slogan " Opera for All " each year an opera and a concert evening at the Max -Joseph-Platz presented at the National Theater.
