Mûr-de-Bretagne

Mûr -de -Bretagne ( Breton: Mur) is a commune with 2108 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Côtes- d'Armor in Brittany.

Geography

The municipality is located in north-western France, about halfway between Brest and Rennes, about 45 kilometers southwest of the English Channel coast at Saint- Brieuc.

History

There are the remains of the megalithic, suggesting a settlement from this period. From the Roman times two streets have been preserved in their course. At that time there were around the town a huge forest area, almost nothing of the remains today. The village belonged to the first mansion Cornwall, later called the Rivière family. She died from the late 15th century.

Sports

Mûr -de -Bretagne was the destination of the fourth stage of the Tour de France 2011.
