Muschampia cribrellum

Muschampia cribrellum, rarely steppe Skipper is a butterfly of the family of Skipper ( Hesperiidae ).

Features

The forewing length is 13 to 16 millimeters. Muschampia cribrellum is very similar to Muschampia tessellum, but is slightly smaller, but has more white spots. On the fore wings there are two pair Postdiskalflecke 1b in cell. However, may be mitigated or reduced to the lower of the two spots. The white Diskalbalken on the front upper wing surface, which is present in tesselatum Muschampia, absent in Muschampia cribellum. Geographic occurrence and habitat

Muschampia cribrellum is distributed from northern Hungary, Romania, Macedonia, Bulgaria and the Ukraine, South Russia to the Altai and the Amur basin. The moth is found on dry steppes with shrubs. In Macedonia, he was found at 800 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The moths fly from May to June in one generation. For the Altai June and July is specified as a time of flight of moths. The caterpillar eats probably due to cinquefoils ( Potentilla spp. )
