Musée Cognacq-Jay

The Musée Cognacq -Jay is an on Marie- Louise Jay (1838-1925) and her husband Ernest Cognacq (1839-1928) returning Parisian art museum.

The founders and owners of large department store La Samaritaine built 1900-1925 on a large collection of valuable furniture and objets d'art. Since the couple was childless, Cognacq donated the collection to the city of Paris in 1928.

The Musée Cognacq -Jay contains, among others, works by François Boucher, Jean- Honoré Fragonard, Jean -Baptiste Greuze, Maurice Quentin de La Tour, Sir Thomas Lawrence, Hubert Robert, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, and Jean- Antoine Watteau. The museum was initially located on the Boulevard des Capucines and since 1990 at the Hôtel Donon, rue Elzévir nr. 8 in the 3rd arrondissement.
