Musée Rodin

The Musée Rodin is an account opened in 1919, almost exclusively to the work of French sculptor Auguste Rodin museum dedicated to the rue de Varenne in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

The building

The museum is housed in a former particulier, built in the years 1727-1732 by the architect Jacques -Ange Gabriel for the financier Abraham Peyrenc de Moras ( 1686-1732 ) Hôtel, which in 1753 in the possession of Louis -Antoine de Gontaut (1700-1788), duc de Biron and maréchal de France came and therefore is also known as the Hôtel Biron.

The city palace inhabited from 1904 numerous artists, including Auguste Rodin, in the years 1908-1917. His made ​​since 1909 use, it is also due to that the building was not demolished to make way for a residential development space. Instead, the decision was taken in 1916 to accommodate the artist's donated works of art and his correspondence in the Hôtel Biron. Due to renovation works, the exhibition at the Hôtel Biron was closed until 3 April 2012. During this closure 300 drawings were exhibited in a special exhibition, who prepared Rodin 1890-1917.

Exhibits

The exhibits in the museum exhibits is, among other things, the thinker from the year 1880. Moreover, the works of long -term lover of Rodin, Camille Claudel, as well as the former private art collection of Rodin with the paintings are, amongst others, by Vincent van Gogh.
