Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano
The Museo Civico di storia naturale ( " Urban Museum of Natural History " ) in Milan is one of the most important natural history museums in Italy.
History
The museum was founded on the initiative of the naturalist and collector Giuseppe De Cristofori ( 1803-1837 ). He had his collection bequeathed to the city of Milan under the condition for setting up a museum, with its leadership his friend Giorgio Jan (1791-1866) was to entrust. Again, this has left the museum its natural history collection. After initial disagreements regarding the size and location of the museum was founded in 1838 and this eventually built in the years 1888 to 1893 in the Romanesque Revival style.
In 1943, the museum was completely destroyed by bombing, with half of the exhibits was lost. After the war it was rebuilt in 1952 and made accessible to the public again.

The museum is located on the eastern edge of the city parks Public Gardens Indro Montanelli, near the planetarium. The address is Museo Civico di Storia Naturale, Corso Venezia, 55-20121 Milano.
Exhibition
Today, the museum has 23 exhibition rooms on two levels with a total exhibition area of 5,500 sqm. About 100 dioramas depict scenes from flora and fauna in different natural landscapes. The museum has an important library with 140,000 volumes and 2,400 periodicals.

Among the special attractions include the fossil collection of Besanogletschers which contains 200 million year old reptile, and seven complete dinosaur skeletons and the reconstruction of a Triceratops. Another special feature is " the first Italian dinosaur " Scipionyx Samniticus.
