Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is the largest art museum in Rotterdam with many paintings and sculptures.

The building was erected in the museum park Rotterdam der Steur 1928-1935 by the architect Ad van. Advanced it was 1963-1972 and 2000-2003. It is a listed building as Rijksmonument.

Collection

The collection of the museum dates back in part to the legacy of the Rotterdam Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans lawyer from the year 1847. In 1958, the museum acquired the collection of industrialist and shipowner Daniel George van Beuningen. In later years, the collection has been expanded through acquisitions and other donations.

In the museum, a small version of " Tower of Babel " by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, works by Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Vincent van Gogh and works of many masters of the 20th century include to see.

Outdoor facilities

In 2005, the six-meter- high sculpture of Santa Claus of the American performance artist Paul McCarthy was erected in front of the museum. It is the dwarf -like representation of a Santa Claus who a butt plug in her right hand and to satirize consumer greed. Meanwhile, the sculpture is further east on Eendrachtsplein.

On the northeast corner of the museum, on the canal, and there is a sculpture Sylvette by Pablo Picasso, sent a drawing stone sculpture.

Exhibition

  • 2010: Divided Divided, Carsten Höller, part of the exhibition is the opportunity to spend after museum closes until the morning all alone in the museum.
