Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale

The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale is an art museum in the city of Fort Lauderdale in the U.S. state of Florida.

History

The museum was founded as Fort Lauderdale Art Center launched in 1958. In 1986 moved into a planned by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes modern building with approximately 7000 square meters of floor space. In 1981, added a new wing with about 930 m². The permanent exhibitions are shown on approximately 2,000 sqm and a terrace of about 260 square meters.

Museum Politics

The approximately 6,200 objects from the collection include, among other ceramics by Pablo Picasso, Contemporary Art from Cuba and the largest collection of works by the CoBrA group in North America and the Native American cultures of southern Florida and the Caribbean. In addition, the museum focuses on the presentation of contemporary art.

Glackens wing

The newly built wing of 1981 contains the largest with over 500 exhibits collection of works by the American painter William Glackens realistischan.
