Museum of Vancouver

The Museum of Vancouver, formerly Vancouver Museum, located in Vanier Park in Vancouver, Canada. It is H.R. MacMillan Space Centre housed and is the largest municipal museum in the country. Shown are permanent and traveling exhibitions on the history of the city, the indigenous people of the cultural achievements and the Pacific Rim, as well as exhibitions of contemporary history. In the same building there is also an observatory. In the vicinity of the museum also houses the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

History

The museum was founded on January 17, 1894 by the way, Historical, and Scientific Association of Vancouver. On April 15, the first permanent exhibition space was opened, the floor of the Carnegie Library. Over the years the museum amassed thousands of items that were purchased by residents of the city. These included an Egyptian mummy, Taxidermien of animals of the region, objects of daily use from the late 19th and 20th centuries and travel diaries. 1967 moved into the new building, which was built to mark the centenary of the founding of the museum.
