The audio player supports ID3 tags. MOC has a playlist and folder browser, which can be switched between these per tab. For the folder browser startup folder can be set, the so-called " MUSICDIR ". This will be loaded on demand at the start of the player.

His text-based user interface is therefore saves resources. It uses a client / server architecture to that of Music Player Daemon is similar. Closing the user interface normally only terminates the client, the server continues running in the background. It is also possible to leave this way more clients can be run in parallel, which can be useful for example in the use of virtual desktops. The program also supports the use of themes, which are created as text files.

Although MOC uses a similar client / server architecture like Music Player Daemon, MOC is not reachable over the network, and it also has no open API to communicate with alternative clients. Nevertheless, it is possible the client over the network, such as via SSH to get to another computer, and thus to control the server.
