Mute violin

A silent violin is a violin without resonator. The name comes from the English name "silent violin", which apart from some exceptions (see below precursor, Laurie Anderson ) and was later significantly influenced by the manufacturer Yamaha, why have almost exclusively proliferation found this Silent instruments. The Yamaha Corporation stopped Silent Violin 1997, after the Silent Piano, the Silent Grand Piano and before the Silent Cello, the Silent Guitar and the Silent Viola. As with an electric violin musician, the sonority of a traditional violin can be procured with the help of pickups and headphones, as well as reverb and concert hall acoustics.

Known to the general public dumb violins were bond by the group who were very successful in the early 2000s by the Yamaha design of these violins and cellos with modernized, fast- accelerated implementations of classical compositions.

These so-called lightweight violins have been in the past and are also still produced in various shapes and with selected materials as a prototype or in small series.

Silent Instruments

The Silent instruments find their starting point in the classical instruments of classical music, the basic concept and technique of these instruments is very strong abzudämfpen the originally very audible musical performance brought about by instrumental structural measures, in part, such as significant changes to the resonator to its utter excision or addition of electro-acoustic pickups. You can so the sounds produced directly to the player, usually through headphones, perform and make only this place. A well-known example is the mute violin, in which the amplifier technology replaces the resonator. True, only this category zuzuzählenden instruments have no sound or sound box. They belong to the group of (partly mechanical ) silent practice instruments.

Silent instruments and electrically amplified musical instruments

As part of its increased use in the underground music, mostly due to their slim and initially somewhat disconcerting but also new optics they could - not least because of their inherent technology - for instrumental performance in large rooms or halls equal to the electric guitar or the electric bass and are used for enhanced with Microphone human voice.

In addition, (usually television or live performances ) is found in numerous musical contributions of the use of traditional instruments, which were only equipped with additional amplification technology (such as the temporary attachment of an electric pickup to an acoustic guitar); the latter are not attributable to the Silent instruments, as they are previously provided for the non- amplified music lecture and unsuitable for the silent instrument 's full sound attenuation. A good example of a musical instrument that both the idea and the possibilities of "Silent " embodied idea, is the Silent Piano by Yamaha, which equally apply to the non- electrically amplified ( ie purely acoustic ) Lecture, as Silent Instrument ( in private household ) and as a tool for studio recording (because the sound of a concert grand piano imitating the microphone and installation considerably simplifying) seems suitable.

Precursor

For the Silent instruments also exist purely analog precursor to work with either means the mechanical damping (eg Trumpet Mutes ( Silent Brass ), built- in pianos Filzdämpfer ) or keyboard instruments with the complete decoupling of the keyboard and sound-generating mechanism ( z. B. Virgil Practice pianos, etc.) also commonly known as silent keyboards.

Laurie Anderson had used with her album Home of the Brave a neon glowing string bow with any of the Silent Violin similar but developed by itself a few years ago Yamaha Instruments slimmer shape in 1986. The slender form of this instrument was made possible by the complete omission of the sound or using one with violin strings, fingerboard and chinrest and for playability correspondingly extended violin neck. This instrument, transformed by guitar pick into a kind of electric violin. (see picture) and thus gave her eponymous multimedia show a then innovative element.
